False Pass
False Pass is the last remaining Aleut village on Unimak Island in the Aleutian Islands. The community sits on a glacial flood plain of Roundtop Mountain. False Pass acquired its name in the early 1900s from ship captains who believed the shallow waters and narrowness of the channel made the Isanotski Strait impassable. The formal boundaries of False Pass encompass 41 miles of water and 26 miles of land, which include the abandoned villages of Morzhovoi and Ikatan.
